Quick comparison
| Type | How it is obtained | When you know | Main planning constraint |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nesting mutation | Spawn by hatching from a player's nest under the mutation's eligible conditions | On the newly nested creature | Requires a nesting setup and an eligible mutation window or condition. |
| Growth mutation | Grow an individual naturally through eligible age milestones | A notification appears when it applies | Community documentation says growth tokens prevent the normal growth-mutation roll. Recheck after system updates. |
| Event or condition-specific mutation | Meet a dated event, plushie, weather, species, or other published requirement | Depends on the mutation | Availability can close or change; an old route is not proof it works now. |
Mutation, trait, material, and palette are not synonyms
- A mutation is attached to an individual creature through mutation rules.
- A trait is a separate individual characteristic and can affect stats.
- A material, signature look, or palette is a customization item or appearance option obtained and equipped through its own system.
- A species is the reusable creature unlock.
These can all influence how a stored creature looks or trades, but the trade window should identify them separately. Do not pay for a "mutated species" without checking whether the offer is actually an individual stored creature.
How to hunt growth mutations
- Choose a replaceable individual. Mutation hunting is a repeated growth process; do not begin with a slot you cannot afford to lose.
- Confirm current eligibility. Some mutations are seasonal, monthly, weather-based, species-restricted, plushie-assisted, or otherwise conditional.
- Grow naturally. If your target uses growth-milestone rolls, avoid growth tokens unless a current official change says they preserve mutation eligibility.
- Watch every milestone notification. Record the exact mutation, age, date, event, plushies, and server conditions.
- Verify the stored slot. Do not rely only on the visual effect; inspect the individual after the roll.
- Stop when the setup no longer matches the goal. A patch, event end, or changed requirement can make further attempts invalid.
The documented system can allow multiple mutations on one individual, while display rules limit which visual effect is shown. Because stacking and display exceptions can change, the stored creature's current detail panel is the final check.
How to hunt nesting mutations
Nesting mutations require a player capable of nesting and another player or account to hatch into the nest. Before repeating the process:
- confirm the parent creature and target mutation are eligible;
- check whether a plushie or event condition is required;
- use a safe nesting location with food, water, and escape options;
- record unsuccessful attempts as attempts, not proof that the mutation is unavailable;
- avoid promising another player a guaranteed result.
Random chance does not become a guarantee after a certain number of failures unless the game explicitly publishes a pity mechanic for that mutation.
What mutations change
Most documented mutations are primarily visual. Community documentation notes exceptions such as Dwarfism and Gigantism, where model and hitbox size can slightly affect movement or combat interactions. That is not permission to assume every rare-looking mutation adds power.
Mutation market value is also separate from mechanical strength. Appearance, season, creature demand, traits, age, and buyer preference can all affect offers. There is no permanent multiplier that correctly prices every mutation on every creature.
A mutation record template
Use a small record when testing a route:
| Field | Example of what to record |
|---|---|
| Date and game version | The date plus the visible update label |
| Creature and slot | Species name and which stored individual |
| Method | Natural growth or nesting |
| Conditions | Event, weather, plushies, parent, server conditions |
| Growth shortcut used | Yes or no |
| Result | Exact in-game mutation notification or no mutation |
This makes a report reproducible and helps separate a real change from a missed requirement.
Frequently asked questions
Can a species itself be mutated?
Mutations belong to an individual stored creature, not to the reusable species unlock.
Do growth tokens help mutation hunting?
Community documentation currently says a creature cannot receive growth mutations when tokens are used to grow it. Treat that as version-sensitive and recheck after any mutation-system update.
Are mutations always cosmetic?
Most are visual, but documented size-changing exceptions can affect the model and hitbox. Check the current description of the exact mutation.
How much is a mutation worth?
There is no fixed universal answer. Price depends on the creature, mutation, traits, age, current supply, and current buyer demand. Use recent comparable offers and the in-game market signals described in the trading guide.
Can mutations stack?
Community documentation records multiple mutations on one individual with display limitations and exceptions. Inspect the current stored-slot details rather than assuming all effects will be visible together.
